My new journey reading African-American Authors.

I am currently reading Wench, by Dolen Perkins-Valdez.  The story that takes place before the civil war about slavery, in particular black slave women and their masters.  This is the second book I have read with this theme.

The first was Cane River by Lalita Tademy.   Her novel is based on a true family story that was passed down generation to generation.  Being the history lover that I am, I was hooked.  After I read Cane River, I found Children of the Waters by Carleen Brice, and then went on to read her second novel, Orange Mint and Honey.

I am a voracious reader, but had not read very many books by African-American authors.  Carleen Brice has a  website called White Readers meet Black Authors at  http://welcomewhitefolks.blogspot.com/.  Wench is the third book I have read so far from her list.  Wow! I love when I find new authors to read and this opens up an entire new world of books to me!  If you love to read, check this out.  I recommend both of Carleen Brice's books highly.
